Key to Sanborn Map of Kansas City, Vol. 1 (corrected to January 1907), showing Kansas City area bounded from the Kansas and Missouri State Line on the west, Cherry on the east, the Missouri River to the north, and East 43rd to the south. Also shows railroads, bridges, parks, and a cemetery.
This is from a map labeled, “Sanborn Map, Kansas City, Vol. 1, 1895-1907, Page p007″. Our building is there circled in the upper right hand corner. Nice old pic of downtown Kansas City. He wouldn’t move in until 1930.
This area in Kansas City was known as the “Garment District”, but there were also a lot of hotels around as you can see. Looks like our building was split into two different business at the time. All these images come from, “Missouri Valley Special Collections, Kansas City Public Library, Kansas City, Missouri.” (And thanks to Heather for finding this for us!)
