Johnson Files & Torx Sets

black diamond finishing rasp files

So we got in some good quantities on 4 different USA files. This deal was actually separate from the Western Forge deal, so all these files are going in the Nicholson Closeouts section, as I suspect that Nicholson was the original manufacturer. This particular file you are looking at is a 14″ Black Diamond Hoof Finishing Rasp.

We also have a number of 14″ Half Round Smooth Johnson Files. So if anyone you know is looking for a 14″ smooth Johnson, please let them know that we have more than we can handle and that we are selling ours cheaper than anyone in town.

Another Johnson file, this one is a 10″ half round bastard. If a smooth johnson is not quite what you are looking for, why not try a bastard?

mill blunt file usa

Finally we have a 8″ mill blunt 2nd cut file. If you’ve tried the smooth Johnson and the bastard, you might want to sit down with this USA 8″ blunt.

And now for the continuing saga of the Western Forge deal. I added two new items today. A 5 pc Craftsman Torx Screwdriver Set. T15, T20, T25, T27 & T30.

4 pc craftsman stubby torx screwdriver set

and this unusual Craftsman Stubby Torx Screwdriver Set. T10, T15, T20 & T25.

Wow, what are the chances of seeing the Johnson brand files again?

Now I was actually very lucky to actually use a Johnson file some time ago, but this file had to be over 20-30 years old, given that this was a precision triangular file, but the person wouldn’t tell me where they bought this let alone much more info than that.

But I think these were made by Nicholson because with their current file brush that is sold today, that is under the Black Diamond series. But I could be wrong.

I’ve looked around and hardly do you ever see Johnson files that aren’t heavily used, rusted, chipped is amazing and to even find them, the only place these days is online only.

Amazing deal none the less though.

How thick is that 14″ Johnson? I have a tight hole I want to ream out and I’m not sure it’s gonna fit.

The 14″ Johnson is a 1 3/8″ wide and 3/8″ thick. Pretty good size Johnson.

I hope I am not asking a great deal here, but as generality, are what is the vintage of the files listed here? I am thinking about 10+ years ago, but given that Johnson files and Black Diamond files aren’t easy to acquire information on, I could be wrong though.

Because of the nubby bottom, those Craftsman Torx sets probably aren’t more than 5-7 years old I imagine.

The Black Diamond files are dated 1998. I originally said that the Johnson files were made by Nicholson, but that appears to be wrong. Not sure when they were made, as there is no date on the box. There is a two letter code that is stamped on the outside of the box. Probably some internal coding system.

Thank you for the information, you know I think I saw a exact image of that 14 inch Johnson brand file online last year and if I had to guess I’d say it’s potentially from the 80′s, but the file there had a rustic appearance.

Makes me wonder if Johnson files aren’t made by Nicholson if that company even exists anymore then. Pretty awesome information though.

Just heard that Johnson was a subsidiary of Simmons. The boxes say “Johnson Files Established 1868. Newcomerstown Ohio.”

I’ve actually heard of the brand Simmons, seen some of those files on a auction site named eBay once or twice. But as with you, I only was able to snap a picture of the product with sku numbers and such.

Now that is some really cool and helpful information though.
